The explosive growth of generative AI is creating waves of excitement and apprehension in the workplace. But for global mobility professionals, this disruptive technology presents an opportunity to reimagine their role and deliver even greater value.
As Pradeep Setlur, Global Head of Mobility at Capgemini, shared during our recent The View From The Top show, his company is already leveraging generative AI in powerful ways for its mobility function. They have deployed an AI-powered immigration chatbot that has fielded over 1,200 employee inquiries without any human intervention. From basic questions like "When do I need to start my visa extension?" to more complex personal situations, the chatbot provides instant, automated responses.
But the transformative potential goes far beyond an immigration assistant. Matthew Chic, Benivo, demonstrated how AI could enhance the entire mobility management experience. An AI assistant integrated into Benivo's platform can guide mobility managers step-by-step through processes like initiating employees, running cost estimates, and understanding immigration rules. It can even automatically summarize case details to accelerate issue resolution.
As Pradeep emphasized, generative AI allows mobility teams to "elevate their workforce" by automating routine tasks. This frees up talent to focus on higher-level, strategic objectives. One key area Pradeep is targeting is "speed to landing" — leveraging AI to radically reduce the cycle time for getting employees productive and billable at their host locations.
Measuring and optimizing these cycle times can unlock significant value for the business. As Pradeep explains, "If you are able to showcase that it used to take 89 days to land someone, but now with AI it's taking 80 days, you can highlight the 9 days of extra revenue and billing opportunities for the company."
Of course, as the panel discussed, rapid technological change can breed confusion and even fear. But as Pradeep advises, "Don't wait for AI to be forced top-down. Proactively leverage it to your advantage and stay in the driver's seat."
The age of generative AI has arrived for global mobility. Those who embrace it can become "smart mobility" leaders — delivering a heightened experience for employees and the business through the powerful fusion of human ingenuity and artificial intelligence.
One of the most exciting opportunities with generative AI is envisioning entirely new possibilities that were previously unthinkable. As Brian Friedman mentioned, while cost estimates are standard for mobility programs, how many companies truly optimize for "speed to landing" — minimizing the time it takes to get an employee productive and billable at their host location? With generative AI, mobility teams can start modeling these cycle times, run "what-if" scenarios, and adjust processes to drive maximum efficiency. This kind of blue-sky, out-of-the-box thinking is exactly what Capgemini is exploring by partnering with innovators like Benivo. And it hints at the remarkable potential still to come as AI capabilities exponentially evolve. As the speed of technological change accelerates, solution providers and enterprise mobility teams must agilely co-create, constantly asking "why couldn't we do this before?" Those that embrace reinvention will be the Smart Mobility leaders of the future.
